The Peruvian forest (la selva)

Approximately half of the territory is in the east of the Andes, in the Amazonian basin. In this zone of the country precipitations are much more significant, the rivers charged and the erosion dramatic!

The basin of the Amazon occupies the major part of the territory and to move the water ways are mainly used. The forest occupies practically all space.

The access paths are rare and during the rain season not very practicable. But oil and natural gas were recently discovered in this area, which lets suppose that the region can one day be better linked to the remainder of the country.

During the dry season, from April to October, the temperatures climb to 35°C. From November to April, during the rain season, the weather is hot and wet, and tropical downpours can occur at any time of the day.
